Our partners and dealers both at home and overseas are massively important to us. So we like to take the opportunity to shine a light on them when we can! In this month’s Dealer Spotlight, we’ve been speaking to Peter Allen, Operations Manager at Cornwall Vacuum Services.
Please introduce yourself/yourselves.
I’m Peter, the Operations Manager at Cornwall Vacuum Services (CVS). Over the past 14 years at CVS, I’ve steadily advanced through various roles—from front-of-house duties and scheduling engineers to ordering stock and gaining hands-on experience as an engineer.
I’ve also had the opportunity to work on the sales team. My current role primarily focuses on sales and ensuring that we effectively meet the operational needs of our business.
What did you do before you started at CVS?
Before joining CVS, I held various roles in sales and customer service. After leaving school at 16, I initially trained as a fitness instructor. I particularly enjoyed working with GP referrals to help people recover from injuries and improve their overall lifestyle.
I believe my success stems from hard work and a commitment to treating people—and their challenges—with the same respect and care I would want to receive.
How did CVS come about?
Cornwall Vacuum Services was founded in 1991 by Kevin and Mandy Cocks, originally as a franchise focusing on domestic vacuum repairs.
However, it soon became evident that the commercial market held more potential, prompting Kevin and Mandy to shift their focus in that direction and eventually move away from the franchise model. Starting from modest beginnings, CVS has grown to employ eight people and, in 2010, moved into its own purpose-built premises.
Today, CVS specializes in the supply, service, and repair of all types of commercial cleaning equipment- from small tub vacuums to large scrubber driers, sweepers, steam machines, pressure washers, and gutter vacuums. With over 33 years of experience in the floor care sector, CVS has developed a deep well of knowledge and expertise, helping businesses across the Southwest find the right solutions for their commercial cleaning needs.
What is the secret to CVS’s success?
Kevin’s mantra for success is built on three core principles:
- Delivering exceptional customer service
- Embracing opportunities by saying, “yes” (we’ve tackled some fascinating projects by collaborating with clients to solve challenges others wouldn’t take on)
- Ensuring our team possesses a thorough understanding of the products we supply.
This involves knowing how they work, why they work, and where they’re most effective. Our strong reputation in the Southwest has opened many doors for us, and we’re determined to maintain that standing.
What appealed to you about becoming a skyVac dealer?
We began supplying skyVac machines in October 2015, starting with the Industrial 85. We needed a machine that could deliver true power and performance, and skyVac didn’t disappoint. Features like the tipping chassis and durable, lightweight carbon fibre poles made it an instant hit with our customers.
What are your plans/hopes for the next five years?
In the next five years, we plan to continue doing what we do best: prioritizing our customers and delivering exceptional customer service, while pursuing steady, healthy growth. We’re committed to keeping it local- CVS thrives in the Southwest, primarily serving Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Dorset.
We believe there are plenty of opportunities in these areas without the need to compete in the online race to the bottom- shipping boxes without providing additional services like personal site surveys, machine prep and delivery, staff training and great aftercare.
What is your favourite skyVac product?
My favourite is the skyVac Interceptor. It’s a powerhouse, equipped with a Honda engine, which allows it to operate independently of power constraints. If this machine can’t shift gutter debris, then no other machine will.
What is your bestseller?
The skyVac Industrial 85 is our top seller. It’s perfect for sites where staff handle gutter cleaning themselves, as they can tap into their own power supply. The Powermix function is an excellent feature, allowing users to switch seamlessly between heavy cleaning and high airflow tasks.
What does Spinaclean do well as a supplier?
Innovation. Having worked with Spinaclean for nearly a decade, we’ve witnessed their skyVac products and accessories evolve continuously. They listen to feedback from customers and dealers, refining their offerings to meet real-world needs.
What could we do better for you?
Honestly, you’ve been a fantastic partner, and we truly appreciate the ongoing innovation you bring to the table. Working with a small team that knows us well and shares our values is incredibly important to us.
